Digital Pink Slips FAQ
Sep 19, 2019 2 minute read
As brokers, it's our job to educate and inform our customers about any changes in the insurance world. Here are a few of the most common questions our brokers have heard about digital pink slips.
Q: What do digital pink slips mean for customers?
It means less waiting! Now that pink slips are available digitally, you won’t have to wait for your pink slip to arrive in the mail. Once you’re insured, you can hit the road ASAP.
The same responsibilities around proof of insurance still apply to drivers. Just like you always had to have the paper pink slip ready to show, you must always have your digital pink slip while driving. “My phone is out of batteries” will not be an accepted excuse if you are pulled over by the police.
Q: What about the privacy concerns?
Some drivers have expressed concerns about handing their phone to police. Our whole lives are on our phones these days, including personal information. Some people are uncomfortable handing this information over.
Both iPhones and Androids have wallet functions that allow you to lock your phone while displaying documents such as pink slips. You might have already used this feature to access a plane ticket.
If you are an Intact customer, the Client Centre has a function that allows you to display the app, then lock your phone, so you can show proof of insurance without putting your personal information at risk.
Q: Can I still get a paper pink slip?
If you would like a paper pink slip, simply contact your broker who can mail one to you.
Q: What if I lend my car to a friend?
All you have to do is forward the pink slip to their phone. It couldn’t be easier!
Q: Will I need an internet connection to see my digital pink slip?
Once you’ve downloaded the pink slip to your phone, you won’t need an internet connection to see it
Q: What took you so long?
We know, we know, it’s about time! If we’re being completely honest, insurance has been one of the slowest industries when it comes to embracing digital technologies. But leaders across the industry have recognized that it’s time for us to catch up. Our lives are becoming increasingly digital, and when it comes to insurance, there are many opportunities for us to make our customers’ lives easier!
